Winner!

So I actually did it. Amazing isn't it. This writing endevour has changed me. I have seen into the minds of my characters and they have held my hand and brought me through it. I started writing with zero plot, zero characters, zero reason to even write it -- except for one thing: I wanted to see what would happen in my mind if I let it wonder. There were weird twists and turns I never would have predicted. It could not have been written any other way.

MC and others, thanks for the experience.

Writing on the road

Here I am hurtling down the road at close to 80 mph and I'm typing! This is quite an experience. Of course it is nice to have pervasive inet access through it all. It allows me to do this blog! :) But I should really get back to my novel..I'm a little behind at this point, but I hope to catch up in the next few hours.

Back?

My plot is taking me to some really great places. Someday I should visit them for real! After taking a couple of days off, I'm now sitting ahead of the curve again. NaNoWriMo...bring it on :)

Plot Thickening...

Ok, so now over 12,000 words and the plot is beginning to thicken up. That is good and bad. Good, I'm able to now have a consistent reason for the MC's existence...Bad, I can't change the direction too much without totally trashing the prior 12,000 words. Not that I'm all that concerned, but I want to do this as well as I can.

Also, I'm writing this novel to be PG or less, so the reunion between Warren and Francene did not really grow into that many words...shame really.

NaNo in China!

So I'm now over 20% done. During this process my MC (main character) is recalling time spent in Beijing, China. Unfortunately for me, as the author, I have never been to China and know very little if anything about Beijing. Luckily for me, there is Google! So, I spent some time today doing a little research. Don't worry not too much, but things like common Chinese names and current issues that affect Chinese people, especially in Beijing. I found a few links:

This first link is sad, it is about the plight of the common person there, it was done by a British journalist...oh don't worry, it definitely got some time in the novel: China's Olympic Lie

This next link is interesting...did you know there was an Underground City in Beijing? I didn't but it plays well into my plot!

So it is onward push...less than 40,000 words to go!

First few days

I've been writing a novel. It seems like the plot may finally be taking shape after 5888 words! This has been really fun so far. I'm not allowing myself to plan it too much. This is an exercise in brain diarrhea. It does seem though that the main character, which only got a name 2000 words ago (Warren Smith), is going to be some kinda of secret agent man. Ah, typical you say? Maybe, or maybe secret agents are really everywhere :)

November as WriMo

NaNoWriMo needs no introduction at this point, does it? It is National Novel Writing Month, and this is a "me too" post. It started in 1999 and has grown into a huge self-eating frog! heh So I'm going to do it this year, I promise. Right after I tweak my theme some more :)
